Troop Earns $1,200 for RaceFest Participation
Troop 118 received a check Monday, April 20, for $1,200 from the organizers of the Charlotte RaceFest. Scouters earned the donation for helping man aid stations for the annual footrace. Thanks to Mark Evans and Kurt Newman for organizing this successful fundraiser, and to all the parents, friends and family members who showed up to help hand out Gatorade and H2O.
Troop 118 Active in Community Service
Troop 118 scouts earned a pizza party in March for collecting more food during the February Scouting for Food drive for Loaves and Fishes than any other troop in Mecklenburg County. The troop collected over 15,000 pounds of food for the local food bank. The pizza party was donated by Dominos Pizza. Local franchise owner Mack Patterson is a member of the Council Executive Board and led the Scouting for Food drive for the council.
Introducing the Scout Scrip Program
Committee Member Brian Windham has introduced and is managing the troop's new "Shop by Scrip" program.
Scout families purchase gift cards through the Troop and in return the troop makes a percentage of the
total value of the gift card purchase. Gift cards are available for just about every retailer known.

- Brian's special Web site for the program.

Charles Johnson's Photo Wins Scouting Magazine Contest
A shot of Camp Grimes by our own Charles Johnson was one of several winners of the Scouting Magazine's photo contest. The shot, of Zach Onstot pondering life on the dock at Lake Calhoun, is featured in the most recent issue of the magazine.
Our Mission Statement
Troop 118 emphasizes to each boy to serve others by teaching
values that can be found in the Scout Oath and Law. Our troop helps
each scout to make correct ethical choices in their lifetime so they can
achieve their full potential. Troop 118 helps to develop young leaders,
and instill in them the values of community services, respect for the outdoors, and personal spirituality.
We are committed to adventure, learning, challenge and fun. We
encourage all scouts to respect each other and seek responsibility and
be disciplined both within the troop and in their everyday lives. We incorporate
fun, advancement and recognition, and youth leadership opportunities at
our meetings, camping trips and service projects. We support each
scout as they take it
One Pace at a Time to advance in rank and strive
to reach one of scouting greatest honors-the rank of Eagle.
